Some Health Concerns Need Continued Review
One consultation may be enough for some concerns, while others may benefit from another review. The need for follow-up depends on your health concern, the care provided and the clinical advice you receive.
If follow-up is recommended, attending gives you and the healthcare team an opportunity to discuss what has changed since the previous consultation.
What May Be Discussed at Follow-Up
A follow-up consultation may be used to review your progress, discuss ongoing concerns, consider available results or check how the current care plan is going.
The healthcare professional can then explain whether the existing plan should continue or whether another step may be clinically appropriate.
Prepare for the Conversation
If you are unsure whether a follow-up appointment is needed, speak with the healthcare professional or hospital team responsible for your care.
- Note any changes you have experienced since your previous visit
- Bring information about your current medicines where available
- Write down questions about your care or the next step
- Ask for clarification if you do not understand the advice provided
