Think About Your Main Health Concern
Before your appointment, consider the main concern you would like to discuss. It may help to note when it started, how it has changed and anything you have noticed that makes it better or worse.
You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis. Clear information about what you have experienced can help the healthcare professional understand your concern and decide what assessment may be appropriate.
Bring Useful Information Where Available
Some information may support the discussion, but it should not become a barrier to attending your appointment.
- The names of medicines, supplements or remedies you currently use
- Any allergies you know about
- Relevant previous test results, clinic notes or medical information that you already have
- A short list of the questions you would most like answered
Ask Questions During the Consultation
Tell the healthcare professional if something is unclear. You can ask for an explanation in simpler terms, check that you have understood correctly and ask what should happen next.
Before leaving, make sure you understand any instructions you have been given, whether another visit is needed and who to contact if you have further questions.
